These random factoid things are like a trip down memory lane for me too. So I suppose this post could be called "Trip down memory lane: Take 2" or "Longest Post Jessica has ever written: Take 2".
1. If I have to spend a lot of time inside (studying, for school, etc.), I like to change the wallpaper on my desktop for changes of scenery.
2. I was very good at the claw game. My cousin taught all of us younger cousins how to play and we won so many stuffed animals that we had to use a big garbage bag to take them home and people would gather to watch us as we played.
3. I don't blow dry my hair unless I have to. I stopped after high school all of a sudden.
4. My ears turn really really red when I feel hot (temperature-wise).
5. I am a closet gamer. At home, I still have my old game boy (the ones that look like a big gray brick), Super Nintendo system, and the original Nintendo system…and I have to say, I kick butt at duck hunt ;).
6. I love garage sale/yard sale hunting. When I was a kid, my mom and I had a Saturday tradition. We would get up really early on Saturdays and go garage sale hunting. We got so many good deals! And we still have a lot of stuff that we bought from those sales at home even now. It was one of my favorite things to do with my Mom as a little kid. I love it so much that I think I'll keep it a tradition that I'll do with my kids =). (btw, we got the original Nintendo system at a garage sale)
7. I love to go fruit-picking. I haven't done it ever since middle school though.
8. I love to sing karaoke in Taiwan.
9. I love driving. Short drives, long drives…It's soothing to me and it's something I like to do when I have something to think about.
10. One of the biggest problems my mom had with me when I was a kid was making me eat. I was notorious for eating a bite and then running off because I was getting distracted or I wanted to play. For church on Friday nights, my mom would take me to the nursery along with my dinner (because I wasn't finished with it) and leave it up to the poor moms/babysitters to chase after me and make me eat 1 bite before I went back to playing. I had a short attention span for food and a loooong attention span for play.
11. The monkey bars were one of my favorite things to play with on the playground (that and the swings). A group of girls and I (when I was in elementary school), that was our territory cause we were awesome at climbing them, doing flips, etc. I used to get blisters and calluses on my hands (the remnants of the calluses are still present) from climbing the monkey bars too much. I remember we used to play a game on the monkey bars. 2 people would start on opposite ends and climb towards the middle and they would have to use their legs to make the other person fall off. The point was to see who would hold on the longest. I think we used to call it "Chicken". I definitely won my fair share of those (partly because of my drive to prove that I could beat people even though I was puny).
12. I once got a minor concussion from falling off of the monkey bars in middle school. I think that was the end of my relationship with monkey bars.
13. My mom wouldn't let me get my ears pierced when I was in middle school (right when everybody else had their ears pierced). So, in order to wear earrings, I tried wearing clip on earrings for quite some time and then gave up cause they hurt. My mom told me that I had to wait until I was 16. However, by the time I got to high school, I didn't want my ears pierced anymore. When junior year prom rolled around, my mom had to force me to get my ears pierced.
14. I won a K-8 spelling bee when I was in 4th (around that time) grade. I spelled the word "briefcase" correctly. And ended up going to the county spelling bee where I lost in the 6th round. I forget which word I had to spell.
15. A list of the pets that I've had: parakeets, a turtle, hermit crabs (that were caught from the beach), fish, dogs, prairie dog, and a chinchilla.
16. My dad used to do take care of wild pigeons (in Taiwan and in the U.S.). So between the ages of 2-4, we had cages and cages of pigeons out in the backyard. I remember the pigeons quite vividly.
17. Ever since 7th grade, I've wanted to get a motorcycle license and drive a moped in Taiwan.
18. I have a weakness for school supplies. Keep me away from office max (especially pens, pencils, stationary, etc.)
19. The longest I have ever kept in touch with someone (and by "kept in touch", I mean purely using snail mail and nothing else) was with my elementary school friend for 7 years (5th grade-12th grade). We stopped writing once we got to college and have gone our separate ways, but snail mail/pen pals will always hold a special meaning for me. I used to correspond by letter with people a lot. But now I don't have the time =(
20. I grew up listening to soft rock on the radio (my mom would always have it on. I don't know why). And so that's why I know a lot of songs from the 80s, 70s, 60s, and 50s.
21. I do not like drinking any carbonated beverage. I will only drink it, if I have to.
22. I have only had 1 cavity in my entire life (though I have a sweet tooth).
23. I used to have a serious overbite (because my mouth was too small for my big teeth) before I got braces in 6th grade. Seriously, I looked like a beaver.
24. I had to have 4 baby teeth forcefully pulled to make room for my adult teeth.
25. Only 1 teacher has ever made me cry in my entire life. And that was my art teacher in 6th grade. Although to be fair, it really wasn't her fault. She just happened to push the wrong button which set off my crying.
26. My family has moved 5 times in my life.
27. I have a permanently crooked right pinky because I jammed my finger really badly playing basketball. Physical therapy didn't fix it. I still pull on it occasionally but I know it's not going to straighten out.
28. When I was really young, I have had a door close on both hands (on separate occasions. Once was my right hand and the other time was my left).
29. I didn't develop a sense of fashion until after 8th grade. Pictures will prove it :P.
30. I can still fit into clothes that I wore in middle school (of course, they were really big on me back then but they fit just right, right now :P)
31. Because I've always wanted to be different from everyone else (and because I didn't like icing), for my own birthday, I've always had an ice cream cake.
32. When I was in middle school, because I thought I was too short, I made my grandfather buy me some really really expensive chinese herbal medicine that (he said the herbalist said) would make me grow. My mom had to boil it every night for a year and it tasted so bad that I had to hold my nose to drink it. It didn't work. Obviously.
33. My mom and I share clothes and shoes. We often get our clothes or shoes mixed up. She is more fashionable than I am and she buys all my clothes.
34. I used to have hair so long that it went past my butt. And when it got that long, my hair got naturally wavy near the bottom.
35. I actually really enjoy fishing (as long as someone takes me but I haven't done it in awhile because nobody we know goes fishing). I have my own fishing pole at home.
36. I used to take ping pong lessons with a professional from China (a long time ago).
37. I'm a big U2 fan. Music is a HUGE part of me.
38. I do not get the asian glow when I drink alcohol (all the easier to fake people out). Although I do have to be careful when I drink because of my acid reflux.
39. I used to be REALLY REALLY into anime (in middle school). Especially one particular series. I will not say the series cause I am embarrassed :P
40. I have stood a guy up before (in middle school) and I have felt horrible about it to this day.
41. I really enjoy doing puzzles (1000 pieces and up only. And none of those 3D kinds) because of my grandpa. We even have a strategy for them too.
42. I don't really like cheese that much. At least not a lot of it. And yes, you can question whether I'm American at this point because I hate popcorn, don't like cheese, and don’t' drink soda.
43. My "accidents" that you would see on America's Funniest home videos: I once got clothes-lined while playing Red Rover (and that would be the last time I played Red Rover. Freshman year in high school). I also got hit in the stomach once by a tennis ball (I was in the court next to the guy and he hit a cross court return that actually went diagonal to the next court).
44. One of my favorite ways to explore a city is to eat at all different kinds of restaurants in the city and try weird foods.
45. I have a lot of (or maybe a few) good scar stories.
46. One of my greatest (and perhaps irrational) fears/biggest nightmare is being raped.
47. I've had my birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese, a miniature putt putt mini park, and at a roller skating rink.
48. I have had 1 perm in my entire life (My mom did it to me when I was small. And don't ask to see pictures :P). And from then on, it has made the right side of my hair curl more/easier than my left side.
Speaking of #1, I love that website you showed me. I've found some great desktop backgrounds there!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of #7, we should go fruit picking while you're in town! Apparently there are a lot of places to go around here!
Speaking of #24, I just had to say I have you so beat... only 2 of my baby teeth came out on their own. 2! Every other baby tooth I had was pulled out - and it's the same for my whole family - we all have stubborn teeth! I must say I was not a happy camper, but the tooth fairy was kinda sympathetic ... before she was giving too many handouts ;-)
Didn't you go fruit picking awhile ago w/Eric, Eric, and Laura? I was looking around and found somewhere pretty close to Cleveland - it says all the good picking times for strawberries/cherries start in Mid-June! Just fyi - http://westorchardsfarmmarket.com/aboutus.aspx
ReplyDeleteoooh! Yay!!! I'd love to go fruitpicking with everyone! That would be SOOO much fun! :D
ReplyDeleteAnd no, we didnt' go fruitpicking.
