Lost

So I actually kept a typed journal when I was traveling to and from Cambodia and when I was in Cambodia. In addition to the thoughts about the mission trip, I also had a bunch of random thoughts here and there that I'd like to post when I get around to it...Here's one of them:

At the airport in Phnom Penh, my dad and I were watching this National Geographic program…it was called Amazing Moments. It still gives me goosebumps and chills to recall the images that I saw on the screen as these people (we couldn’t hear the sound really so I could just see the images)…this tribe injured themselves almost to the point of bleeding to death, to make marks all over their back and chest in patterns so that when it scarred, it bubbled up and their skin looked like that of a crocodile. There was also another image of a guy getting his tongue surgically cut in half so that it resembled that of a snake. Those images got me thinking...WHY do we humans want to worship something more stupid than we are? Why do we worship things that can’t talk, can’t think for themselves, and or in some cases, can’t even move? God created us in His image and we’re actually above the animals…made just a little lower than the angels. Why do we debase ourselves like that? Where is our pride in being made in the image of God? Why do we destroy the image of God in order to look like a dumb (in both meanings of the word: speechless and less intelligent) animal? It just shows how lost we are when we don’t have a shepherd...

  1. I love this post, very blunt and forward and I think sometimes people need to hear something just like this, b/c it provokes them and gets them to think, Thus realizing that they are worth more than they may think, so much more. I loved it.
