Casting a glance up at the cloudy sky, I walked quickly across the parking lot and into Dave's. It was about 3 o'clock and I didn't want to hit school traffic. Pulling out a cart, I set about getting the things I needed for the week as well as for InterVarsity's Oasis meeting. It's a good thing I made a list. It helps me to be more efficient and not linger or browse.
After checking out and checking how many bags I had, I pushed the cart out to my car. Popping the trunk, I grabbed the groceries and started loading. The wind was picking up and it was cold. Almost done, only 2 bags left.
"Do you need any help with that?" a soft voice said.
Surprised, I looked to my right at the tall young black guy that had appeared by my cart. Smiling, I shook my head, "No, I'm fine. Thank you though."
I put the last bags in my trunk and raised my hands to close the lid.
"Here, let me help you with that." Closing my trunk, he smiled and took up my cart, "Stay beautiful...and have a good one."
Amazed, I smiled back and replied, "Thanks. You too!"
Still a little shocked, I got into my car and watched the guy for a second in my sideview mirror as he pushed the cart away.
Shaking my head and smiling, I started my car and backed out.
My day started out very routine and regular, but by the time I got back from the store, my entire mood had changed. It's amazing how far little acts and words of kindness can go to make my day.
