Inside scoop to med school slang

So, I've decided to post this because one of our anatomy professors, Dr. Park, said this one day during lecture, "Oh and for all you gunners out there, the anatomical name for [insert body part] is [insert name]" And the whole class was speechless for 5 sec cause we couldn't believe he used med school slang, and then we just burst out laughing. So I thought to share a little bit med student slang just to show how wonderful med school is [insert sarcasm].

Gunner: a med student who is competitive,overly-ambitious and substantially exceeds minimum requirements. A gunner will compromise his/her peer relationships and/or reputation among peers in order to obtain recognition and praise from his/her superiors.

Getting pimped: When a professor or supervising physician shoots a lot of really hard questions at a med student incessantly for the purpose of watching them mess up.

Scut monkey: A medical student or resident forced to do mindless work by a supervising physician. Scut supposedly means some menial task or work. Other people like to make it into an acronym: Some Common Unfinished Task.

I don't post this to put down med school, or to scare anyone into not going, etc. It's just a glimpse into the life =). I hope I am managing to post both good and bad about med school (at least, I'm trying to) cause I really really really love med school and the stuff we're learning. It's the environment that doesn't agree with me. What can I say but in this world but not of it =P.
