Pride and Prejudice, etc.

I have just recently watched Pride and Prejudice - 2005 version (because it was on tv for the past couple of days) - twice actually :P. But anyways, that's not the point of this post. If at all, this post is really a philosophizing post...So if this bores you then by all means. Btw, this main contain spoilers for those of you who don't know the storyline of the book or the movie. I myself have not read the book but after this movie, I do have a desire to read it.

Anyways, the original novel written by Jane Austen was supposedly titled "First Impressions" not "Pride and Prejudice". First Impressions was rejected outright (without a glance by a publisher) and it wasn't until after the publishing of Sense and Sensibility and after Mrs. Austen changed the title to Pride and Prejudice that the novel was published. Naturally, for years, many English professors/scholars have tried to interpret the title and how it fits into story.
Here's my interpretation:
The storyline really is all about "first impressions" and how they are wrong. Most of the time. And it can be seen through this movie, how much of our initial actions towards people are governed by first impressions. I believe that one of the main points of the story is Lizzie's learning that first impressions can be quite wrong and that the main reasons they can be wrong is due to pride and prejudice (qualities we all possess to a certain degree).
It is an interesting story about first impressions, that's for sure. And it makes me rethink about all of the first impressions that I've had about other people...I guess if everyone got it right all the time on the first impression, I suppose there would be no reality tv shows or drama in this world ;).

On another note, I learned today that First Evan has a lecture series given once a year by a renowned biblical scholar. This year, the speaker is Dr. Darrell Bock who, though I make it a goal of mine to stay current on news and the happenings of the world, I still very much miss the mark, I have never heard of until today. Apparently he's pretty famous.
Anyways, previous speakers were noted in the announcement and I heard the name Alistair Begg. Very awesome :). I wish I could have been here to listen, had I known.
Anyways, I want to go to this lecture series...the theme is "Jesus in the Public Square." It should be a feeding for my spirit.

Another note: I had the most random dream last night (and I haven't had dreams that I remembered in awhile now. Which is a very good sign). I dreamed that my family and I (or some other group that I went with...the minor details are rather hazy at this point in time) went to some beach for vacation. And at one point, I lost my camera. My Canon Rebel XT. And the whole entire dream after that (I can still remember my panic) was my desperate search for my camera. I searched everywhere, even in the lost and found (where there were soooo many cameras)! But what's really strange is that in this dream, EVERYONE had a Canon Rebel (or something that looked a lot like it) and this beach was very crowded...so it seemed like everywhere I turned, I thought I saw my camera. It made me even more panicky. lol. It was a very strange dream.
